The computer is considered an essential component of Bruno Kaufmann's artistic work. Since the 1980s, the Liechtenstein artist has consistently used his computer to generate the colour modulations and structural colour rhythms that determine his works. Form and colour are thus central elements in the artist's oeuvre and are to be understood as surfaces in space.
Born in 1944 in Balzers, Liechtenstein, Bruno Kaufmann studied art in Zurich and Berlin. In 1970 he became a master student under Prof. Johannes Geccelli. He worked for many years as a freelance artist and as an advertising and industrial photographer. His works were shown in group exhibitions, such as at the Fondation Vasarely in Aix-en-Provence or at the Haus für konstruktive und konkrete Kunst in Zurich, as well as in solo exhibitions, such as at the Kunstraum Engländerbau Vaduz. In 1993 he founded the Kunstschule Liechtenstein, of which he was director until 2008.
