The artist Jus Juchtmans, born in Belgium in 1952, is primarily concerned in his artistic work with the transparency and reflection created by colour applied in layers. The artist is particularly interested in the interaction between colour and material. Here, the artist understands colour not only in the sense of "colour", i.e. red, yellow, blue. Rather, the artist recognises colour as a material, as a medium with a certain viscosity, transparency and structure. Thus, colour is also used in the sense as a material by Juchtmans and thus also allows a focus on the composition of colour as a material with other materials, such as canvases and wood.
The reflection on the surfaces of the works created by the application of paint allows the viewers to participate as an active part of the work. Reflection is thus not only determined by the technical possibility, but also by the thoughts the viewers have, whereby individual experience and knowledge play a role here. A further impulse with regard to transparency and reflection is generated by the placement of each work. Depending on the place of placement, light plays an elementary role in making the colours visible. Depending on space and time, light makes colours visible or invisible and thus never corresponds to the same work.
