Andy Warhol, born Andrew Warhola in Pittsburgh, USA, was an American artist, director and producer. He became a leading exponent of "Pop Art". His works are situated in the area of tension between artistic expression, star cult and advertising that characterised the 1960s. Warhol used a variety of techniques and media, mainly painting, silkscreen, photography, film and sculpture. His best-known silkscreens include the Campbell soup cans and portraits of Marilyn Monroe (1962). He promoted a number of personalities as "Warhol Superstars", coined the phrase "15 minutes of fame", produced the experimental rock band "Velvet Underground" and published the magazine "Interview". The Andy Warhol Museum in his hometown of Pittsburgh is the largest museum in the USA dedicated to a single artist.

Billy Squier's third LP for Capitol, "Emotions in Motion" was released in 1982 and sold around 3 million copies in the USA. The cover was designed by Andy Warhol. Billy Squier, today almost forgotten as a rock star, was able to win Freddie Mercury from Queen and drummer Roger Taylor as guests for this album. Squier also appeared in the USA in 1982 as the opening act for Queen on their "Hot Space Tour".
