"In the beginning was the square". Klaus Staudt composes his serial, geometric reliefs with this guiding principle. These are characterised by the aesthetics of uniform grid structures and follow the guidelines of serility, shadow, space and movement. They "refer to transparency, light and space and include the interaction of the viewer", as the artist describes it.
Klaus Staudt was born in Otterndorf, Germany in 1932 and initially studied medicine before moving to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. He was a professor at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach am Main from 1974 to 1994. In the field of geometric abstraction, the artist occupies an independent and unmistakable position with his serial reliefs and objects; he is one of the best-known representatives of constructive-concrete art in Germany.
