Painting of oil inversions on primed linen

Dimensions: 90 x 90 x 4.50 cm

Edelbert Köb describes Ty Waltinger's work as follows: "He is the alchemist among process painters. Between science and "secret art" alchemy, he searches for the "philosopher's stone" of painting. He finds it in the rich world of nature, of substances, of ancient pigments, of solvents or binders and forces. Empiricism is his basic method, but the experimental arrangements are sophisticated and application-oriented."

The background of the painting Edel III was hand-beaten with 23 ct. Gold and exposed to the effects of rain. Thus the predominantly old pigment emulsions flowed in countless layers over the linen primed with precious metal. Over a period of several days, a colour-intensive and luminous work emerged.

Born in Vienna in 1962, Waltinger studied painting & graphics. He learned original painting techniques of Venetian panel paintings as well as old Japanese brush techniques. In 1993 he began to develop his special layer painting technique with natural pigments. In 2003 follows the first realisation of a wind-pigment painting in the Tunisian-Algerian Sahara. Waltinger's work is shown in numerous exhibitions in Austria, Switzerland and Germany; in addition to painting, it also includes film projects, photographic works and sound images in performances by music ensembles.
