Georg Malin has been working with cubes for decades. Initially small bronzes evolved into letterforms that grow up to five metres high. Squares, cubes and circles are already characteristic of Malin's early, naturalistic works and subsequently appear more and more as pure geometric forms. For the artist, the square stands as a symbol of a spatially complete world.
Georg Malin was born in 1926 in Mauren, Liechtenstein. He studied history, art history and philosophy in Zurich and Fribourg and has been working as a freelance artist and scientist since 1955. His archetypal, clear formal language was influenced by Brancusi, Moore and Arp. His work, which often revolves around themes of becoming and passing, includes sculptures in stone and steel, bronze-polished heads, flower forms and steles as well as drawings and watercolours. Malin's sculptures can often be seen in public spaces in Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Austria and Germany.
