Landscape with fir tree, 2001
Photography between acrylic glass
Dimensions: 100 x 120 cm
Not only urban but also natural landscapes are among the preferred subjects that the photo artist Alexander Timchenko stages in his works. At first glance, mundane motifs are given an exaggerated, staged, unreal quality by supernatural colour scenarios and sometimes ironically chosen perspectives, which captivate the eye longer than the "originals" ever could.
Alexander Timchenko was born in 1965 in Starnberg, Germany. In 1995 he was awarded the Bavarian State Sponsorship Prize, and in 1997 he received a USA scholarship from the Bavarian State Government. The garish make-believe world of Las Vegas inspires his well-known city stagings. His photographs are regularly shown internationally, for example at the Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig or the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.
