Pérez-Flores, born in Venezuela in 1936, shows optical-kinetic works of art that have their origins in the Latin American Constructivist movement. This art movement builds on the form and colour theory of Bauhaus masters such as Iten and Albers, as well as the three-dimensional experiments of Moholy-Nagy and the abstract pictorial alphabet of Herbin.
Pérez-Flore's works are dominated by the vertical and they provoke physical and psychological tension in the viewer who moves in front of them - visually and emotionally.
For the artist, colour is a means of expressing his creativity. He provides the strictly geometric picture panels with thin steel rods that reach into the space in a real way. His sculptural skills are evident in the constructive pictorial compositions, which often contain tiny motors that move the paint tubes in his works. Pérez-Flores has lived and worked in Paris since 1970.
