As one of the main representatives of Kinetic Art, Heinz Mack is predominantly concerned with the possibilities of light. Using smoothly polished materials, he creates surfaces that reveal different plastic-painterly aspects of the picture - depending on the viewer's point of view and the lighting conditions.
Born in Lollar, Hesse, in 1931, Heinz Mack attended the State Art Academy in Düsseldorf from 1950 to 1953. Together with Otto Piene, he founded the internationally influential group ZERO in Düsseldorf in 1957. Mack was awarded the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his complete oeuvre and for his work as an ambassador of cultures. His works are in around 100 public collections all over the world.
