Ludwig Wilding explores irritations of visual perception by creating illusory movements and virtuality. With his works he constructs situations that go beyond the usual experience of art. His aim is to dissolve the role distinctions between artist and viewer in favour of a participation of the viewer. His paintings do not require any prior knowledge of cultural codes; they foreground the sensual experience. The visual illusion ideally leads to the process of reflective thinking.

Ludwig Wilding ́s works are assigned to the styles of kinetic art and op art. Wilding studied art history and philosophy in Mainz and Stuttgart. In the 1960s he was a member of the Neue Tendenzen art movement. Between 1964 and 1990 Ludwig Wilding took part in sixteen annual DKB exhibitions as a member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund. From 1969 to 1992 he was a professor at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg. In 2007, Ludwig and Ingeborg Wilding founded the Foundation for Concrete Art and Design together with the City of Ingolstadt.
